The largest and grandest mosque in the state of Terengganu is the Taman Ilmu Mosque in Tembila, Besut. This mosque was built in 2007 and completed in 2014 at a cost of RM46.8 million (unofficial).

This Taman Ilmu mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 worshipers at one time, making it the largest mosque in the state of Terengganu and the 5th/6th largest in Malaysia.

The architecture of the Taman Ilmu mosque is based on the design concept of Kg Tuan’s Old Mosque (1830 AD) in Chukai, Kemaman. It applies the identity of the mosque by applying the design of a multi-level roof (layered roof), gutung fruit and semi-circular mihrab.

The mosque on the site of Parcel A, Taman Ilmu with an area of 12.4 hectares is actually part of the overall planning and dream of the former Terengganu Menteri Besar at the time to create an education hub for the state of Terengganu under the East Coast Economic Region ECER plan.

The overall project of the Park of Knowledge is composed of building components including a library, residential college, mini stadium, convention hall, lecture hall, mosque and will house several educational institutions.
