The construction of this mosque was carried out on May 2, 1981. It was fully completed on November 2, 1984, with a total cost of RM8.2 million. The mosque covers an area of 3.3 acres near Jalan Sultan Mahmud and Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ).

The then-Minister of Finance of Malaysia, YBM Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, laid the foundation stone of this mosque in early July 1978. The original site of the mosque was a public hall and the cemetery area of HSNZ.

The modern architecture, based on local characteristics by Mr. Wan Shahriman, resembles the mosques in the Middle East, especially in the flat roof section. The construction was carried out by Gabungan Pemborong Quarry Sendirian Berhad, while the Balai Seni Ukir Wan Su located in Besut was responsible for the carving work of Ukiran Awan Larat and Khat Mimbar as decorations for the mosque.

On February 11, 2016, Masjid Ladang launched the Tabarru’aat Program, which involves donating food and drinks to marginalized groups such as the poor, travelers, and families of patients who are placed in HSNZ for long periods.
